Engraved trade advertising letterpress advertising the services of Thomas Beck, Wholesale Stationer, Engraver, Printer, Lithographer, Die Sinker and Manufacturer of Copying Machines, 81 Cheapside, Two Doors West of Old Jewry, London. A London newspaper advertisement for Thomas Beck Co. appeared in December 1846. With an engraved vignette of dock workers at an English/Australian? dock sealing crates marked "Gold" , "Tallow" and "Wool", with tall masted ships & a steamship visible in the distance; elaborate engraved borders. Printed on laid paper, blank at verso. 4 1/4 x 4 3/4". Slightly marked.

The map shows colored zones for dairying and intense cultivation, mixed farming with some dairying, wheat and sheep, artesian areas. Uncolored areas are delineated as "Pastoral with Cultivation within Irrigation Areas." With small inset of Australia and NSW highlighted. On the verso is explanatory text outlining the agricultural potential to sustain primary industries and then promoting increased immigration and tourism, including fares and regulations for assisted passages, climate, cost of living. Sydney: William Applegate Gullick, 1901. Very good condition. Signed presentation copy, to Charles A. Clough, compliments of N. A. Cobb. Dr. Cobb was one of the first to be appointed to the New South Wales Department of Agriculture, as Government Vegetable Pathologist, where he investigated parasitic diseases of plants and farm stock. He later was appointed to the Hawaiian Sugar Planter's Association Experiment Station in Honolulu, having researched diseases of sugar cane. The publication includes many b&w printed photographic images of mechanical harvesters in the field, with the parts numbered, and identified in captions, as well as horse powered combined harvesters. Tall 8vo, 32pp, b&w ills, printed b&w photographic and b&w line drawings. Pink paper wrappers, titles printed in black. Front wrapper only slightly toned at margins; small attached chip at upper corner rear wrapper. Miscellaneous Publication, No. 519.

Shanghai, 1930. Otherwise very good condition. Broadside advertising the Shanghai silk company with text in Chinese and English, illustrated with woodcut of the silk company at the upper right. Chinese silk production for foreign markets had benefited from the near collapse of the European silk industry caused by the silkworm disease pebrine during the 1850s and 1860s; Nanjing Road became the earliest shipping street in Shanghai and over time, the premier shopping street in China. Text and border printed in red, on thin brown paper. Paper size: 10 1/2" x 16. Original folds, cracked on fold lines, tears to the left edge with some marginal loss, ruffled. Image complete.
