The Black Swallow of Death

By Carisella, P.J. and Ryan, James W.

This book is in very good condition, however the dust jacket (now mylar protected) has suffered slight water damage at the bottom of the spine extending very minorly into the bottom of the front board hinge. Dust jacket has a one inch closed tear to bottom left of front cover. Eugene Jacques Bullard flew with the Lafayette Flying Corp. He fled Columbus, Georgia at the tender age of 8 and worked his way to France (his father told him that in France "all men are equal"). It took him 10 years to reach Paris. In 1914 he enlisted in the Foreign Legion. Badly wounded at Verdun, he managed nonetheless to join the famous Lafayette Flying Corps, becoming the first Black combat aviator.
