Bound in publisher's vellum with gilt decoration to upper board and gilt titles to spine. 4to. xxii (ii), 97pp. Printed in red and black. Decorations at the beginning of each act designed by Eliot Hodgkin and decoration for preface by Edward le Bas. Very good. Some light marking to upper board. Free end papers a little toned. Internally very clean and bright.

Original slipcase. Poems include: "Pyramus and Thisbe", "Pan and Syrinx", "Echo and Narcissus", "Ariadne" and "Callisto". Book in fine condition. Slipcase near fine, just an occasional slight mark and a little colour fade here and there.

[i - iv], x, Facsimile section unpaginated, translation section [1 - 4], 60pp. Translation section has side references which correspond to the signatures of the original edition. Black leather spine over beige cloth boards with a black and gilt title block. Top edge gilt and gilt titles to spine. The renown of the Italian calligraphers Arrighi, Tagliente and Palatino, was due to their books of instruction, he first of their kind. Soon after the publication of Palatino's book in 1540, Juan de Yciar, a young Biscayan who had settled in Saragossa as a calligrapher and teacher, was at work on a book that was clearly inspired by these masters. According to Reynolds Stone's introduction, 'The great value of the book lies in its decoration and for the light it shows on on the part played by the engraver'. Near fine condition.

Original decorated slipcase. Original prospectus loosely inserted. Candide remains as socially and politically relevant as when it was first published in 1759 (and promptly banned). A delightful production from Inky Parrot. Illustrated throughout by Wilton Priestner. Book in near fine condition. Just a little colour fade to the spine and some very light soiling to boards. Slipcase also near fine with very slight wear and light soiling.

Since the first edition of this checklist was published, much new information has become available and great deal of it has been incorporated into this new edition. It was in January of that year that John Lehman terminated his partnership with Leonard Woolf, which prompted Woolf to sell Lehman's share in the business to be sold to Chatto & Windus. Limited to a total of 80 copies (not numbered) & dedicated to The Society of Private Printers of The Private Libraries Association. 30 copies were given to members of the Society of Private Printers. This copy is one of 15 copies produced for sale at £2.2s and bound as a hardback with a paper label to spine, rather than the more commonly seen buff card wrappers with printing to spine. The boards are covered with a dark brown woven fabric and the spine is in fawn cloth. It also has pale blue endpapers, printed with a monotype in brown. Twenty six leaves glued at the fore edges. Also loosely inserted is a printed card "Post Publication Note". Original blue cloth binding with gilt to front and spine. No jacket. Text printed in black with red and occasional blue highlighting etc. Illustrated with woodcuts and black and white photographs. This reproduction of the original is a terrific resource for anyone interested in books from The Ashendene Press. The format of the original has been reduced by 8% for this edition and the double page plates have been reduced by "a greater percentage". The new Afterword and Bibliographical notes have been set in Caslon which The Ashendene Press used during its early period. Book in near fine condition. Blue cloth spine faded together with a rectangle of the blue cloth at the upper quarter of the front board. Internally very clean and bright.

Card covers. 16pp, Frontispiece from an original drawing of the author by Rigby Graham. Designed, hand-set in 14pt Lutetia & printed by Kenneth Hardacre at his Kit-Cat press. Near fine condition. Just the slightest soiling to the card covers.

Slight bumping to corners and minor soiling to linen. Very light and sporadic spotting to text block edges. Glassine wrapper worn at spine with quite a bit of loss, what remains of the spine is discoloured.

The text of this edition is MS1411, Gg. i. 16, in the University Library at Cambridge, but in modern spelling.
