First Canadian Edition. 4to up to 12" tall; 192pp. Black cloth boards with silver spine titles. Two small and very light scratches to boards and otherwise volume is in fine condition. Unclipped jacket has light inside toning to top edge and an inside soil spot.
Held captive as a slave after his crew was killed, John R. Jewitt experienced adventure and hardship as he learned about the native life of Nootka Sound. This new edition contains nearly 300 annotations and 200 drawings for the book by Hilary Stewart. During three years of research, Stewart tracked down the English captive's descendants, John Rodgers Jewitt IV, V and VI, living in the United States, and Northwest Indians still bearing the name Maquinna.
