The publications contain articles,'reviews on books and plays, quotations, a short play, poetry, letters and earlier issues contain simple local advertisements. Publications are securely bound together in blue covers with gilt lettering which has water damage on both faces, the Litany for the League of Social Service (Jersey 1922) which consists of various prayers, is pasted to the front end-paper and a Jersey bookbinder's label to the rear inside covers. Dark green covers with red decoration and lettering on front covers and spines. Light wear at spine-ends. Small rough areas on inside of front covers, where adhesive tape has been removed. Sound binding, except 2 plates and some protective tissue leaves are detached. Paper cracked between half-title and vignette titl of volume II. End-papers and all pages are framed in red. End-papers are lightly foxed. Title pages have light foxing and both contain a colour vignette. There is some slight darkening in the margins of pages and plates. Pages are otherwise clean. Contains 36 colour plates, 2 of which are detached and 7 have very light surface damage, but this does not significantly affect the quality of integrity of the illustrations. Similarly, of the 99 colour vignettes, 10 of them have very slight surface damage, . Tissue leaves protect all the colour illustrations. Full leather binding with simple blind decoration, Dulled gilt lettering "Verona 1531" and decoration on the banded spine, missing spine-label. Both covers are well worn with loss at corners and spine-ends, front cover is detached, leather on rear joint is wholly split and leather over rear cover is lifting at split. Inner front cover has purple stamp from Ampleforth Abbey, a small pasted label and a short reference number in pencil, the paper underneath is darkened and stained. Title page is darkened and also stained at the edges. Block edges are red which is darkened. First page of text has decorated header and first paragraph in red. Pages are bright and text is clear. There are some underlinings against some text in black ink which has faded to brown and occasional notes ( in Latin or Greek) in the margins in the same ink. Pagination: Nothing before Greek and Latin title-page; introduction/ dedication in Latin and Greek [7]; contents in Greek [6] -first gathering containing title introduction/dedcation and contents is detached -; text 152; printing details [1]; frep [3]. Pages are numbered on obverse of pages, reverso pages are not numbered (each page number refers to both sides of a sheet thus body of text contains 152 double sided pages (304)). There are Printer's pagination errors so pages are numbered: 1-96, 90, 100, 99, 100, 101, 102, 96, 104, 105, 105, 107-111, 111, 113-139, [1]. Full leather binding with banded spine with gilt decoration and dark red leather spine-label with gilt lettering. Rubbed gilt decoration on front, edge and inner face of edges of covers, some loss of surface of covers and scuffed corners. Front cover is wholly detached . Red leather label with previous owner's name (B Summers 1817) pasted on the inside of the front cover. Leather on rear external joint is split but cover is firmly attached by cords. Clean marbled end-papers. Internal binding is sound. Free end-papers are lightly marked and have light worm damage at edges. Engraved frontis decorated title - both with light brown stain in the leading margin. Contains address to Christian Readers and Contents page. Blue stain on first page at upper left corner bleeding through to a very small stain in this corner on all pages through to Deuteronomy. Text in double columns with commentary text set below and also in columns. Contains over forty engraved plates including several maps and three frontispieces. Pages and plates are clean but with occasional light foxing which is mostly in the margins. Minimal fine worm damage to leading edges on some pages. Frontis shows date of 1815, plain title a date of 1817, and dated plates have dates of 1815 and 1816. Plain title to "The Apocrypha: to which is prefixed, an historical introduction; comprising a brief sketch of the Principal Events in the Jewish History before the time of the Maccabees" is dated 1816.
