Illustrated with 6 plates of 134 water-color samples gradated and tipped in by hand on Whatman's drawing paper. With a one-page introduction by John Ruskin, the leading art critic of the Victorian era, as well as art patron, water-colorist and prominent social thinker and philanthropist. The introductory essay by J. Scott Taylor, editor of Fields Chromatography, deals with the durability of pigments when exposed to sunlight, followed by chapters on sources of pigments and descriptions of pigments. Very Good condition. Grey Hard cover, some darkening on upper edge with small area of foxing, 2 small spots of foxing on front edge and very slight damage to top and bottom of spine.
