Two volumes, bound in complimentary two-color inlay leather, packaged with the actual copperplate for printing Letter "C" engraved at the Atelier de Talle-Douce Pietro Sarto, St-Prex, the whole encased in protective leather and cloth clamshell box, Numbered and Signed by the artist in limited edition, # 3/26 C

One of 13 woodcuts created for the deluxe edition limited to only 40 copies. It is our understanding that this image is not included in the regular trade edition of the book but simply used as the front cover design.

PRESENTATION COPY Inscribed in ink on front free-endpaper: "Dear Sylvia – Mit Liebe! Maurice & Gene". The recipient, Sylvia Milgram, was Teacher-Coordinator for the Bureau of Art, New York City Board of Education and a Lecturer at the Museum of Modern Art, New York [d. 2000]. Gene is Eugene Glynn (1926-2007), psychoanalyst and Maurice Sendak's partner for more than fifty years.

Portfolio of 4 linecut reproductions after pen/brush and ink drawings, each signed and mounted, contained in paper cartridge wrappers with an illustrated cover label dated 1918. Limited to 100 numbered copies (#88).
THIS is apparently the first publication of any Rockwell Kent illustrations.

With an introductory essay by Maurice Sendak, letterpress printed as an accompanying booklet designed by Iain Bain and signed by both Bain and Sendak. 12mo., 34 woodblock prints + Introductory booklet; cloth clamshell box. Kingston (NY) 1995. Limited to 250 numbered sets.
After nearly a century, thirty-four of the original line blocks used for the first printing have been located and properly identified. Production and design was organized with Iain Bain working alongside Alecto Historical Editions. Renowned and celebrated author/artist Maurice Sendak has written an original appreciation for this series of prints.

Ralph Chubb was a pioneering spirit in promoting these uniquely conceived hand-made private press books mixing prose and poetic heroic and pseudo-religious texts combined with free-spirit illustrations, highly influenced by William Blake, and homoerotic overtones. A landmark in LGBTQ+ literature, generally considered the best designed and illustrated work of the author's oeuvre.
