Vintage press photograph of Tenzin Gyatso (Chinese: 拉木登珠), 14th Dalai Lama, born 1935 and chosen 1940 but not formally enthroned until 1950.
In 1954 he represented Tibet as government official to the first National Assembly of the PRC meeting Chairman Mao, at that time also accompanied by the Panchen Lama. Awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1989.
Dutch Press label on verso identifying the photographer as Irene Slegt, undated, but ca. 1956.

Irene Slegt was one of the three brave women journalists, herself a photographer and war correspondent, who stayed and ended up with the 1500 refugees at the UN compound in Dili, East Timor, to report on the atrocities and erupting violence since the Independence referendum, and witnessed while the Indonesian army was purging the Timorese of their religion, culture and social fabric.

Original carte-de-visite photographs of Charles Sherwood Stratton, better known by his stage name "General Tom Thumb", a dwarf who achieved great fame as a performer under circus pioneer P. T. Barnum, here photographed with his wife Lavinia Warren, AUTOGRAPHED in Stratton's handwriting on verso "Genl Tom Thumb & Mrs Tom Thumb - 1863 August". The couple were married in February 1863 for which it is said President Lincoln hosted them with a reception at the White House. The 2nd picture of the Strattons in their wedding costumes, also a picture of their best man and bridesmaid Commodore Nutt and Minnie Warren (Lavinia's sister), and the wedding party together, all in especially fine condition with dark brown hues, each having facsimile autographs on the verso by their subjects. Handsome portrait of Robert Graves, taken circa 1916. "It was probably taken some time before he was wounded in the Battle of the Somme in July, 1916" (Reese). This print appears to relate to American publicity for Goodbye to All That, first published in London in 1929.
The press caption affixed to the verso reads, "Poet Author of Sensational War Book / Mr. Robert Graves / whose remarkable book on the war, "GOODBYE TO ALL THAT", has created a sensation. / It is said to be the first book in which the war has been written about with frankness from the English point of view."
