Driftwood, Being Papers on Old-Time American Towns and Some Old People

By Shotwell, Walter Gaston

London, England: Longmans, Green & Co, 1927. Hardcover. Very Good/Good. Hardcover copy, navy blue cloth binding with gilt spine lettering; binding is a little rubbed at its spine ends and outside cover corners, and has a very faint cup ring on its front cover; page block edges are darkened, and endpapers are darkened especially where not covered by dust jacket flaps; half-toning to endpapers. Binding is square and tight; text pages are bright and unmarked. In a dust jacket that is faintly rain-spattered on its front panel and that is scuffed and smudged on its faces and rubbed at its spine ends and corners, with tiny closed tears at its spine ends and corners. Dust jacket is in a clear plastic protector. Price on dust jacket is in shillings. Well-written essays on various topics in Ohio and U. S. History. A little essay at the end, "Work," has an anecdote about the relentless pursuit through the early-twentieth-century midwest of an African-American murderer and railroad worker by an African-American friend of the victim, also a railroad worker--sounds like the plot summary of a possible best-selling detective novel. 243 pp. Additional postage may be required for oversize or especially heavy volumes, and for sets.
