Songs of Yosemite

By Symmes, Harold

San Francisco: printed by Blair-Murdock Company for the author, 1911. Hardcover. 44p., letterpress, illustrated with indifferently-reproduced b&w photography of waterfalls, presswork on heavily laid-lined paperstock watermarked "Old Stratford", a wouldbe finepress treatment that isn't a clean miss but, per lame content, certainly no great exemplar. Hardbound in 7.5x5.5 inch clothbacked paper over boards, cover-titled, boards are foxed and seriously dirty. Hinges quite sound, textblock good except for foxing to untrimmed deckle, a fair to good copy. We find a generic bookplate on front pastedown and a printed label on rear pastedown announcing "Sold by California Historical Society San Francisco July, 1944" FYI, copyright is assigned to Mabel Symmes; and some poems appear courtesy Sunset Publishing Company. Sample quattrain: "The Scots may vaunt their highland,/The English praise the lea,/But a green Sierran meadow/Surpasses all for me.
