Originally published in French, this book stands as an illutrated biography of Samuel de Champlain as it bookended by the history of both English Canada and French speaking and colony of Quebec.

Hardcover. 320p., cloth covered boards, 6.75x9.75 inches, boards lightly worn, corners slightly bumped, first few pages lightly soiled else very good condition. Sorel was a French philosopher best known for his book "Reflections on Violence". Although he was a socialist and an admirer of Lenin, his work was also influential on fascists and he was admired by Mussolini.

Riga: Moya Biblioteka, 1991. 119p., hardcover, very good but for book plate inside front cover. Reprint of the 1911 edition. Russian edition of the French Russophile's book on Masonic symbology. Reprinted after the dissolution of Soviet-era bans on Freemasonry.

Barcelona: Gibert y Tuto, 1789. Hardcover. 11p., bound in 8.2x5.7 inch red quarter-leather over pink marbled boards, perhaps early 20thC custom work. Spine-titled gilt, red is mildly faded and gilt is dim, casing generally a little edgeworn, endsheets and blanks are appropriate but "newer," pastedown bears a small shadow of a removed bookplate. The original text leaves are slightly rumpled and mildly toned and foxed; three sentences (on different pages) have been lightly underlined in pencil. A good copy. Exclamatory sermon by member of the Capuchin order here speaking from the pulpit at Parma as its bishop on the recent French Revolution, delivering this pronunciamento three days after the French had nationalized Church property.
