Paris: L'Illustration, 1931. Paperback. Unpaginated, perhaps because "hors serie" and not to be confused with a regular issue. Profuse illustrations with plenty of color, also sepia and b&w. Scattered essays are boilerplate, of course. Format is that of the magazine proper: 15x11 inches, cover has color plate affixed. Spine heavily chipped, front wrap detached or nearly so, staples exposed. Could be worse; the textblock is sound in itself, complete, and only mildly edgeworn. Held in Paris; find a couple small b&w aerial photographs of the site, and a full doublespread artist's aerial rendering in color.

Sausalito CA: Printed for the photographer by Brodock Press Inc., Utica, 1985. 52p., high-resolution b&w photography printed one on a page, captions appended, every several pages find a facing page of literary quotes. Softbound in 10x8 inch wraps, slight signs of handling (light edgewear to covers, mild small cover-crease), a very good copy. Men and women in old age (80s, 90s, three past 100), many still active in a profession (camel-buyer, &c).

Rabat: Royaume du Maroc, Ministere de l'Habitat, 1991. Paperback. 119p., profuse aerial photography (contemporary b&w), a number of line and plat maps (many in tinted monochrome, very pretty), and numerous b&w sketches. The dust jacket supplies seven aerial shots in full color. Texts and imagery are all reproduced on coated alkaline paperstock, and softbound in 12.5x9.5 inch plain printed wraps enclosed in a colorphoto-decorated dust jacket. Book itself is fine: entirely sound, clean and unmarked, really as new, while the dj is mildly edgeworn, has faint smudging near spine panel and a couple small areas of silverfishing. A very good copy. Ancient cities undercut by a receded watertable and.. overtaken.

New York: Horace Liveright, Inc, 1931. Hardcover. xi, 448p., plus 1p. publisher's ad, first American edition in heavy black cloth boards lettered gilt and panelled blind, a handsome sturdy item. Lacks the jacket, spine gilt a tad dim with a blemish but fully legible, casing's corner-tips very faintly turned, this is a very good copy: sound and unmarked.

New York: Frederick A. Stokes Company, 1926. Hardcover. 237p., frontis, foreword, introduction, index, illustrations as called for, hardbound in 9x5.5 inch red cloth boards gilt. Worn copy with dimmed cover titling, touches of fray to extremities which show a little card, and -worst of all- the "tunnel" or space between spine panel and back of textblock has been glued down (perhaps to shore up a cracked hinge) which distorts the spine panel, which ordinarily lifts free when book is opened, a condition binders call "tight-back".. Otherwise unobjectionable, a reading copy.
