New York: Non-Sectarian Anti-Nazi League to Champion Human Rights, 1944. Newsletter. Twenty-two issues of the publication in various formats; earlier issues are staplebound newsletters printed on decent-quality stock, around 8.5x11 inches; in 1941 they shift to tabloid format on toned newsprint. Issues present are vol. 5 no. 1 and two different issues numbered 11; vol. 6 nos. 3-6, 8, 9; vol. 7 nos. 4-6; vol. 8 nos. 1-7, vol. 9 nos. 1, 2, and 3. This last, a special Sedition Trial issue of 16 pages, is more worn than the others, with postal markings and an old tape repair at the fold. The magazine-format issues have some interesting cartoons; the cover art for March 1940 depicts the Christian Front, William Dudley Pelley, Rep. Text is divided up amongst "Early twentieth-century voices" (such as Mann, Parker, Cummings, Seldes), "The New York intellectuals" (Howe, Warshow, Greenberg, et al.), and "Postwar mavericks" (McLuhan, Fiedler, C.L.R.James, et al.).

Hardcover. xiv, 136p., a fine copy with all the bells & whistles of contemporary art-book production, second printing in 12.5x9.5 inch openweave blue cloth boards lettered silverfoil and enclosed in the dust jacket. Szyk's work is preponderantly in full color, but sepia and b&w are sometimes called for, and provided. An immaculate copy in every respect: perfectly sound, clean and unmarked.

Early Denis Kitchen cover illustration, made about the time he landed in Milwaukee (and started illustrating for Mom's Homemade Comics). This one is a wraparound cartoon: back cover shows street-walker with thumb pointing toward front cover, on which a big automobile adorned with bumper-stickers like America: Love it or Leave It, and a Wallace/Le May sticker, driven by a surly crewcut white. Beijing: Renmin chubanshe; Renmin ribao, 1977. Pamphlet. Two volumes, the first a 64p. staplebound booklet, 7.25x10.25 inches, ex-library stamp from a factory clubroom; some soiling and handling wear. The second volume, also 64 pages, has some short edge tears, foxing, and toning. Collection of cartoons from People's Daily depicting the fall of the Gang of Four, some in color.

Unpaginated, b&w comix panels throughout, small hardbound in 6.5x7.5 inches (an oblong), cover printed red & black with cartoon and enclosed in the ditto dust jacket. Mild dampstain to tail of book with slight discoloration to low margin of casing and to same area dust jacket (dust jacket's portion near-invisible on glazed exterior), plus a short inked inscription ("I love you!") to first blank. A sound copy, else clean and unmarked. Early stuff with more sex than now and a lot more football.

Chicago: npub, nd. Handbill. 8.5x11 inch handbill for political artist Jeramy Turner's exhibition; in very good condition.

New York: Physicians Forum for the Study of Medical Care, 1945. Pamphlet. 14p., staplebound pamphlet, very good. First edition (a revised version was printed in 1946). Illustrated with cartoons by Crockett Johnson. In favor of the Wagner-Murray-Dingell bill to broaden public access to health care.

Pocatello ID: Idaho State University, Dept. of History, 2006. 84p., lavish color, period and exhibit photography on alkaline glazed paperstock, journal or magazine in stapled 9.5x8.5 inch decorated wraps. Clean, sound, unmarked, faintest signs of handling and none of age, a near-fine copy.

Rome, Italy: Editrice sindacale italiana, 1972. Paperback. 127p., wraps slightly worn else very good condition. Fred Wright's labor cartoons translated into Italian.

Cape Town: Double Storey Books, 2005. Paperback. 160p., profuse full-page reproductions of the satirist's political cartoons, softbound in oblong 7.5x9.5 inch color wraps, bears a few scattered small smudges, sound, otherwise clean, and free of any markings. For this ignorant cataloguer, a hard POV to interpret. Lotsa anti-US mockery, the UN definitely comes off better by contrast, sneers lampooning white and of Black public-office corruption (and violence) throughout. Harry Belafonte's comment is featured: Belafonte "On meeting Zapiro" said, "I was expecting a black man. God has a sense of humour!

"A brief and objective history of Russian Communism, the objective being to leave not one stone, but many, unturned, to state theories of Marx so clearly that they can almost be understood, and to show how these theories and many old friends were carried out by Lenin, Trotsky, Stalin, Malenkov, Krushchev, and others - with pictures for those unable to read!

Pamphlet. 31p., very good in wraps, nice full-page cover graphic taken from the San Francisco News depicts Lady Justice wearing a blindfold in the waiting room outside the Governor's office, holding a packet marked "Proof of MacDonald's Perjury." Back cover has the rubberstamped contact info for the San Francisco branch of the Defense Committee.

New York: Liberation News Service, 1975. 8, [iv]p., unbound sheets as issued, 10x14 inches, creased horizontally, Complete, includes two pages of graphics with captions on verso. LNS was the primary news service providing radical movement news and comment to the underground press and later alternative papers.

Political cartoon from a Republican publication depicts McGovern riding a donkey, accompanied by stereotyped Welfare recipients, Homosexuals, Pot smokers, Busing advocates, and women demanding Abortion. "This is a photostatic copy of a cover from the publication, First Monday... The Nixon administration has labeled groups of our fellow Americans in such a manner as to fear and hate them... A vote for Nixon is a vote against Humanity!
