Self-published autobiography depicting a "life of persecution" by a California lawyer who had been born in the Orel district of Russia in 1897, and had been an officer in the Russian army in Siberia before emigrating to the United States. Illustrated with photos. Most notably, the author (in his most well-known instance of claiming persecution), later claimed that Charlie Chaplin plagiarized this book for the plot of the movie "Modern Times." Kustoff, serving as his own attorney, sued Chaplin in federal court in 1939 but predictably, lost the case. (The author also lost the appeals case in 1941.)
