The Dirty Dozen

By Nathanson E.M.

NY: Random House, 1965. Book. Very Good-. Hardcover. 1st Edition. Red boards have smallish sun fade top front edge, owner name penned first endsheet. Jacket is not price clipped, no tears, but, white and showing some very mild soiling. I will attempt to shoot jacket/boards with goal of showing these issues but, they are mild enough that they may not read. Book well made, front edge deckle. Text clean and bright..

Scapegoats

By Beach, Edward L.

A beautiful, newish, book and jacket. Inscribed and signed by Beach first endsheet to a naval Commander. Regrettably that person has neatly penned over his name. Beach is remembered for a long and distinguished career which included the Triton circumnavigation and authorship of the classic novel, "Run Silent, Run Deep".

Dugway Proving Ground

By Marquam & Co.

Lubbock: Marquam & Co., 1965. Book. Very Good. Large Paper Bound/ Stiff Cover. I feel sure this is an unauthorized, perhaps evasion of official recognition product. Date is guess, I find none. Cover gives title as "Unofficial Directory and Guide Dugway Proving Ground." And referencing, though seemingly in no way associated with the U.S. Army Test & Evaluation Command. Large format, stiff covered, stapled, saddle stitch style pamphlet. Mild wear, one mild crease, no bad creasing, 18+ pages..

The Monuments Men

By Edsel Robert M.

NY: Center Street/Hachette, 2009. Book. Fine. Hardcover. 1st Edition. If you do not grasp the following you may wish to read Ahearn, their writing on edition in unimpeachable. To paraphrase "A true first edition book is only the first appearance of the trade edition. Later printings(number removal causes many misattributions, yes, RH can be an exception), book clubs, reprints may all call themselves 1st editions, and many do, but they are not." Enough said. . . This is in fact the first trade edition of this non-fiction masterpiece, ie it has FE statement, full number line (RH has the only notable exception I know of and has modified this now) priced jacket, no debossing. Hardcover book is clean and straight, unmarked. Jacket has a hint of edge wear, no tears, minimal abrasion. Handsome in all respects. *We feel that books offered for internet sale should be described thoroughly and accurately. Books listed by Brass Dolphin are so described, and graded, using the strict, traditional standards. For this reason, we have virtually zero returns.*.

Soldiering

By K. Jack Bauer

San Rafael: Presidio, 1978. Book. Good+. Hardcover. A decent hardcover with one notable flaw. The very infrequent penned underlining/noting in the text. Sigh. In leafing through it I may have seen 5 or 10 of these, so it is not overwhelming. Uncocked, sound copy in all other areas. Stated 2nd pr. priced jkt. Jacket has chips out/edge creasing in new mylar wrapper. NOT x-library. *We feel that books offered for internet sale should be described thoroughly and accurately. Battle Below

By Casey, Robert J.

Indianapolis: Bobbs-Merrill, 1945. Book. Good. Hardcover. Book Club Edition. Sub-title, "The War of the Submarines." While this has a 1st edition statement in place, given that the jacket has no price I am reasonably sure it is a book clubbing from the firsts unaltered plates. As many will know a price is rarely but sometimes seen on a BCE, but, I have never seen an unpriced US trade edition dust jacket where the publisher was a commercial enterprise unless it WAS a BCE and therefore a false first. No debossing present. Book in decent shape (date penned and xmas card laid on first endsheet). Fore edge deckle, top edge pale yellow, 380 pages. Book otherwise unmarked. Jacket rather rough, edges thoroughly chipped, crease worn, in mylar wrapper. Great old looking item. *We feel that books offered for internet sale should be described thoroughly and accurately. Books listed by Brass Dolphin are so described, and graded, using the strict, traditional standards. For this reason, we have virtually zero returns.*.

NY: See author, 1943. Book. Poor. Soft cover. This old pulp trade paperback is homely. Sub-title is "recognition guide to operational war planes." Issue 7 & 8 from 1943. Covers detached, tape repaired, creasy (foto will be done) interior pages are quite decent with many b&w illustrations. They are swell. I will be storing it and shipping it in a heavy acid free sleeve. *We feel that books offered for internet sale should be described thoroughly and accurately. Wash D.C.: G.P.O., 1985. Book. Near Fine. Hardcover. 5th or later Edition. I surmise that this is one volume of what I assume is the multi-volume 1985 reprint of the 1971 reprint done by The National Historical Society. Perhaps a sales promo item? In any case it is very handsome. The only isbn given seems not to be correct so it has been omitted. The spine gives the contents as "Series 1 vol.9 Operations in SE Virginia, N.Carolina, Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona Jan 11th- Sept 20th 1862 HAMPTON ROADS, ROANOKE ISLAND Serial #9". The long interior contents list seems to agree with this summary. Handsome black cloth facsimile reprint of the 1883 original by the USGPO. *We feel that books offered for internet sale should be described thoroughly and accurately. Lexington: The University Press of Kentucky, 2004. Book. Near Fine. Hardcover. Splendid hardcover copy. Looks new at a short distance. However, a careful look at the texts edges showed 3 dogearings (now corrected) to this tight, otherwise unsullied book. Jacket seems flawless, no tears. BCE seems likely (unpriced jacket, not uncommon for Univ. presses) but, strongly suspect is Book Club.
