El Rodeo 1932 University Of Southern California Yearbook

By Morley, John ed.

Los Angeles: Associated Students of USC, 1932. Book. Very Good. Hardcover. 1st Edition. Quite a special book and thoroughly described here as is our custom, and the traditional way of offering fine books for sale, all books really. . . No dust jacket, of course. Given Coach Rockne's untimely death (plane accident Spring 1931) the summary of SCs 16 to 14 victory over the Irish (Nov. '31) and the section leading, full page tribute (photo/appreciation) to KR is more than noteworthy. The Olympics themed yearbook is unmarked, no marking of any kind noted, sturdy, clean and uncocked. The books interior has a number of design elements of international/Olympic style. The endsheets could be called magnificent from this standpoint. Examining each page of the piece has called to my attention 3 'flaws' that seem worth detailing, there may be others but I rather doubt it and with the exception of mild age appropriate wear issues I think the summary will be accurate, perhaps to a fault. There is a 3/4" tear at the lower margin of an interior page. Between the last endsheet and the texts last page there was a mild over gluing that resulted in the need for separation (at the gutter) of the sheets, this was smallish, and overglued area is less than a postage stamp in size. Finally the covers are a dark green in the main, with a generous sprinkle of paint fleck on it's back, not nearly as disfiguring as it sounds. I will attempt to get a back cover shot for the books listing, though given the issue and my poor camera technique I am not sure the flecks will be visible. JUST RECEIVED and added to this listing, decent hardcover of Castner's "We Remember Rockne" 2nd pr. 1976, a loving history of the coaches life and the game by game reminiscences of the players. Photo will follow..

Gem Of The Mountains, 1923

By University of Idaho

Caldwell: Caxton, 1923. Book. Fair+. Full-Leather. 1st Edition. Interesting book richly done with many sepia tone photos and post-Victorian, art deco sensibility. Front of book has scar and stain, a lightened area, yet charming in it's blind stamped simplicity. Feel likely not leatherette given the age. Beveled exterior board edges. Book was originally done with 3 photos tipped on to dark sheets, 2 of these have been removed. An assortment of other fairly mild use indications (e.g. thumbed) are present but, binding sound, text unmarked. *We feel that books offered for internet sale should be described thoroughly and accurately. Books listed by Brass Dolphin are so described, and graded, using the strict, traditional standards. For this reason, we have virtually zero returns.*.

The Illio 1950

By Ther, Irene L.

Not Stated, 1950. Book. Good -. Hardcover. 1st Edition. This heavily done book has some corner abrasion, trace of text wave especially last few sheets. Covers (esp. top spine) have some edge abrasion. Text quite decent, name penned first endsheet, small. As of this time we have the 1947, '49, '50, '51, '53 Yearbooks of The University of Illinois, "The Illio" on the shelf, condition and price vary slightly. This one has scuff/some stain and trace cover soil, mild, clearly used. In working with them for 2 hours I have seen no marking and no hinge gapping or other major structural issues. They are all very heavy, but each can ship at our standard domestic media mail rate. More than usual for priority/international as they can not fit in a flat rate envelope. *We feel that books offered for internet sale should be described thoroughly and accurately. The Beaver Volume 30 1936

By Brandt, Philip M. Editor

Corvallis: Class of 1936 Book. Good+. Hardcover. 1st Edition. Sweet job of book making, sound if rather typically showing it's age. Front forester illustration has postage stamp abrasion (white in the grey sky) and may have been covered with tissue overlay when made, this has been removed and it's edges peek out from under the books first pastedown (the sheet fixed inside the books board) a trifle. This and a couple of mild text smudges, plus customary scar/stain to boards (very mild) are present, but still, the book is quite presentable and should fotograf well. The foto will accompany the listing shortly. *We feel that books offered for internet sale should be described thoroughly and accurately. Olla Podrida, 1921 Yearbook for Lawrenceville School

By Havens, Paul S, Lawrenceville School

Lawrenceville, NJ: As Above, 1921. Book. Fair+. Hardcover. 1st Edition Thus. An unusual book indeed, the product of the Graduating Class referenced above, and they did an absolutely masterful job of producing it and had the services, presumably of a classmate, Julliard McDonald, who was a superb cartoonist and illustrator. Book is 3/4 bound in black leather, balance wine colored cloth with gilt. All exterior surfaces are somewhat worn, scars and stains, adding overall to its aged charm. I shall not look as good at nearly ninety. . .The heavy paper is all bound in, though in places eased to a gapping of 1/16th" or less. The first sheets, after the heavy colored end papers, have notable foxing. Similar at rear. The combination of photos, beautiful printing treatment are outstanding. Top edge gilt. The whimsical and in some case Art Nouveau? Deco? character of the illustrations is enchanting. Less so, but hugely illustrative is a truly awful, blatantly racist drawing for the "banjola club." *We feel that books offered for internet sale should be described thoroughly and accurately. Books listed by Brass Dolphin are so described, and graded, using the strict, traditional standards. For this reason, we have virtually zero returns.*.
