Description:
York: Wilson, Spence, and Mawman, 1795. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Good. .Interspersed with Anecdotes Respecting Most of the Performers in the Three Kingdoms, from 1765 to 1795." Volume 4 only, with front board detached. 1st edition, 16mo, ¾ leather and marbled boards (bound by H. Wood), marbled endpapers, all edges gilt, 267 pages. Condition is GOOD: front board is detached but present, spine has a few pieces missing (see photos), but text block is tight, rear board tight, pages are strikingly clean with a few faint scattered spots to first 5 pages. A shame about the board and only being volume 4 - it's a lovely book! Tate Wilkinson (1739-1803) was the theater manager in the Yorkshire Circuit during the careers of some of British theater's most famous actresses, Dorothea Jordan and Mrs. Siddons (and other Kembles) to name just two. He left us this 4 volume compilation of theater history and anecdotes as well as 4 volumes of his Memoirs.
