Here we are again: recollections of an old circus clown.

By Sherwood, Robert Edmund.

Indianapolis, IN: Bobbs-Merrill Company, 1926. No printing statement, 8vo, red cloth, 293 pages, b/w plates (photographs and music), has the scarce jacket. Condition is GOOD+ book / FAIR - GOOD jacket: book has rubbing along the bottom edge and to spine extremities, small tear on front cover, some faint cover wear, stain on rear, stain to top page edge (this just barely bleeds on to the back endpaper and last few pages at top edge; the illusive jacket has four 1" triangular chips missing (2 on rear, 1 to spine head, and a small chip to front panel), other small chips and tears to edges and corners, tannish dampstain covers most of rear panel, price-clipped, but the front panel is largely all present and is the wonderful color illustration of the clown in front of four circus elephants in front of the big top (picture available upon request). "Sherwood was a protege of P.T. Barnum; worked with Tom Thumb and Dan Rice and all the old ones who made the circus a thing of wonder and witchery and romance... Sherwoods artistry as a clown gained him the plaudits of other famous persons- Mark Twain, Queen Victoria, Jim Fisk, Elbert Hubbard, and others..." Photographs include Barnum, and Mark Twain (a picture of him in bed, taken a few days before his death and published here for the first time), as well as a number of other circus performers and friends of the author.. Hard Cover. G+.
