I paid for this volume R350.00 + 4% GST R364.00. I went over to Pretoria and met Alan Kemp at the Transvaal Museum and he very kindly signed all my copies of Finch Davis's Birds & was impressed that I had gathered all the paintings along with the information and receipts. It gave me great joy. I also met the publisher - a charming gentleman." The frontispage and front pastedown have Peden's ex-libris plates; the first-free-page has his ownership stamp. The book is housed in a caramel coloured slipcase (marbled edges). The edges have some wear, the faces are scuffed, marked from handling and shelving. Leather lips. The case is sturdy and sure. The boards and leathered spine are most handsome, healthy. Stamped colophon; gilt titling and borders on a blue leather patch on the second panel (the spine has five ridges). The contents are in wonderful, excellent condition. They shine with vivality, they are very clean and clear, confident, shiveringly generous, fresh, bright, vibrant, amiable and convivial. fk
