Paul and Virginia

By St. Pierre, Bernardin de

W S Orr & Co., London, 1839. First Edition. Hardcover. Good/No Jacket. 307 pages (complete). A note from the editor : "...this is the first time that the Paul and Virginia of St Pierre has appeared in an English dress ; all the previous editions having been disfigured by impertinent interpolations, and mutilated by numerous omissions and alterations, which had the effect of reducing it from the rank of a philosophical tale to the level of a mere story for children. From this species of sacrilege the Editor has endeavoured to rescue this charming work ...".
