More Things in Heaven ..

By Owen, Walter

Andrew Dakers Limited, London, 1947. First Edition. Hardcover. Good/Poor. 332 pages (complete). A Rare, resolute copy of Owen's second, and last, science fiction novel. Somewhat involved, a narrator (Walter Owen) and a mystic adept named Merlin Alaska investigate a case of Spontaneous Human Combustion. The trail of clues, found in ancient documents, manuscripts and travelogs, leads to the discovery of a two-thousand year old Zoroastrian curse upon the descendants of Alexander the Great. The dustjacket is much worn, torn, scuffed, marked. It is heroically intact. The boards are hardy. They have residue from the dustjacket which, due to damp storage conditions, stuck to the boards. The boards have wear, scuffing and marks. Nonetheless, they are assured and sure. The very early pages have damp marks to the top spine corner. The pages from thereon, are clean, clear, comfortable, confident, certain. fk

Orbit, 1998. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good/No Jacket. 345 pages (complete). A comfortable, neat copy of this Science Fiction novel wherein (the much lamented) Iain Banks mischievously said was an attempt to write a 'Culture' novel without it being a 'Culture' novel! The hardback edition of the book has a "Note on the Text" which was omitted from the paperback editions (again where Banks plays with the reader and 'Culture' addict). The boards are healthy, sound. The contents are pleasingly clean, clear, certain, compelling. fn
