Eight quarto (7-1/2" x 11") volumes bound in full green morocco leather by Bickers & Son with triple gilt-ruled covers with gilt fleur-de-lys corner decorations, gilt-decorated spines with contrasting morocco spine labels, gilt dentelles, marbled endpapers, all edges gilt. Illustrated with 131 full-page chromolithograph plates as well as numerous full-page black-and-white plates and text engravings illustrating all facets of life in the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. Text in French. Each volume with the bookplate of Lovis Childs Madeira, designed by Walter M. Aikman, on the front pastedown.

Quarto (7-1/4" x 11") bound in contemporary marbled boards with later calf leather spine and corners. The atlas volume only of the multi-volume set complete with 57 lithographs and a map. Froissart's CHRONICLES (or CHRONIQUES) was written in French by Jean Froissart, chronicling the years 1322 until 1400, and describing the conditions that created the Hundred Years' War, as well as the first fifty years of the war. For centuries it has been recognized as the chief expression of the chivalric revival of 14th century England and France.
