From a recent Bonham's and Butterfield's auction of early 19th Century fiction--this copy is just about "as new" even though it is over 100 years old. Square, tight, and clean throughout. Absolutely no spots or discoloration to red cloth boards--full gilt lettering to front board and spine. Original tissue guard covering title page and opposite color illustration. Page blocks and edges unmarked and clean. A collectible copy in remarkable condition. From a Pulitzer Prize winning novelist.

From the collection of Jean Hersholt--who was the Danish actor who played Heidi's grandfather in the original movie with Shirley Temple in the title role. A fine copy in original hard wrappers, uncut and protected over the years in a custom chemise and slipcase--which Hersholt had custom made. Besides acting, Hersholt was a noted collector and a noted translator of the works of Hans Christian Anderson into English (translated over 150 works). From the recently auctioned collection of the Goldstone brothers (Steinbeck's bibliographers)--this one with the custom gold bookplate loosely applied to the front endpaper and M.B. Goldstone's penciled signature to the front free endpaper. Near fine in brown cloth and gilt lettering and decorations to the front board and spine. A couple of minor splotches only. A tight and square copy--clean throughout and with the original tissue guard covering the frontispiece. Typical of the high quality of the Goldstone collection. 606 pp plus 4 pp of adv at rear including ad for Johnston's "The Long Roll". A sturdy copy in black cloth with blue lettering and pennant decorations to front board. 305 pp. Decorative endpapers and pastedowns. Edgewear to one top edge--some of the board is worn away--about an inch. Also some wear to the rear board at the top where a little of the cloth has been worn away. Dusty paper edges. Otherwise a tight sturdy copy with clean interior. Dustjacket has edgewear and chipping to the top and a little at the heel of the spine--some darkening to the spine as well--not a near fine copy--but certainly a very good copy with a colorful front dustjacket. Author won the pulitzer prize for "Laughing Boy".

Rare copy of first American edition in red cloth boards with gilt lettering to front board and spine. Interior is very clean with only the original owner's name in ink on front free endpaper. Glasgow won the Pulitzer prize for fiction later in her life and was extremely popular in the early part of the 20th century.
