Full leather with 4 raised bands to spine, and a little tooled decoration to boards, red speckled page edges. Part 1: 360pp, Part 2: 308pp; h: 18cm. With frontispiece engraved portrait of the author in his robes of Chief Justice of the King's Bench. Each part has an anonymous preface. Fair condition overall: the text block (pages) are very good, largely clean (a few marginal marks) and soundly bound; however the covers are poor: very worn, with the front board detached (present), title panel to spine and part of panel above are missing. A rebinding copy.

Green leather with gilt title and decorations to spine in compartments, gilt decoations to front and back covers, all edges gilt. 385pp. Engraved frontispiece, engraving in text and a few engraved decorative chapter headings. Story of early Christian martyrs for members of the Roman Catholic Church. Convent school prize leaf tipped in at front, 1864. Covers bright and clean, but edges rubbed with abrasions. Binding sound. Endpapers have faint pencil scribble (also on one page) and front endpaper has small tear. A few spots and marks, one or two edge creases or small tears. A Good+ copy.

Endpapers spotted and with irregular loss along edges (max depth 3cm). Lighter loss along edge of half title page(.5cm) minor chipping to edge of title page. Text Complete but lacks map, still tight. A rebinding copy.

Foxing to ffep, half title, and reverse rear endpaper, all other pages clean. Some very minor rubbing to spine folds and corners. A lovely copy.

Boards and spine relaid, additional presentation page to front dated 1906, title page and first 3 pages have also been very well relaid. Some pages have light loss to margins, aeg now with some areas rubbed. A nice copy.
