Appraises the creative contributions of Spain and Spaniards to the historical development of the United States. The cover is a bit discolored at the edges; else the book is as issued.

Oceanport, NJ: Digital Editions, 2003. Digital reproduction of a 550-page book originally published in 1900. This new edition, published on a USB Flash Drive (credit card style), contains four text files in DOC format (4.6 Mb), for MAC and PC and most current word processing programs. It includes a list of "authorities quoted," an index of places outside Massachusetts, a list of "gentle" pioneers, a list of "pioneers towns" (with primitive names), and a cross-index (index of names associated with the pioneers).
Having mined Savage's Genealogical Dictionary for information about our ancestors, with most pleasing results, we were surprised to discover how much more information we found in Pope's Pioneers of Massachusetts. The latter does not supplant the former: Pope confined his enquiry to Massachusetts, and included only those who arrived before 1650, though he carried their records (including the births and marriages of their children), in some cases, through about 1730. Title of the original continues: "Comprising a Particular View of the Missionary Operations Connected with the Introduction and Progress of Christianity Among the Hawaiian People. Interior as issued; blue cloth cover is minimally worn, but moderately soiled.

Nominal shelf-wear, mostly at the ends of the spine. Interior is spotless with no obvious toning. There is, however, foxing on a few interleaved plates. The tome features the abodes and people of the following families: BYRD, STOCKTON, COATES, PASCHALL, MORRIS, HERRMAN, VAN RENSSELAER, PAGE, CARTER, LIVINGSTON, CARROLL, KEITH, GRAEME, HARRISON, and RANDOLPH. There are 163 images, including eleven interleaaved photogravures.
