Illustrated throughout with color photographs, including cover and inside back cover. Light creasing along the staple line and minute wear to the corner tips. LAID IN is a half-fold, yellow paper brochure "Acquainting you with... The Library and Museum of The Grand Lodge F. and A. M. of Pennsylvania"; worn edges. Designed by James H. Windrim in medieval Norman style with bold and elaborate elevations and is considered one of the great architectural wonders of Philadelphia. The interior was designed by George Herzog and took 15 years to complete. The massive granite cornerstone, weighing ten tons, was leveled on St. John the Baptist's Day, June 24, 1868. The ceremonial gavel used on that day by Grand Master Richard Vaux was the same gavel used by President George Washington in leveling the cornerstone of the nation's Capitol building in 1793.On May 27, 1971, the Temple was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1985. It was cited in its landmark designation as one of the nation's most elaborate examples of Masonic architecture. ; 8vo .

Circa 1931. 90 [6] pages. Advertisements scattered throughout book. The cover is toned along all extremities and has a one inch spine split. Corner tips are worn otherwise a clean, tight copy in exceptional condition. Laid in is a single, 6.25 X 4" sheet advert with photo graphic of a candy display: "Zion 1931 Hot Shot Candy Deal." A detailed index is quite helpful. Typical helpful booklet with sections on table setting, weights and measures and canning. The recipes are primarily of bread, cakes, cookies, pies, pudding etc. Meat is grouped together with short instruction in preparation and serving for the typical cuts of lamb and mutton, beef, and pork but also for the 'extra parts' such as brains, heart, liver etc. Recipes include: Mrs. Lucas' Hot Rolls (Three hour process); Royal Griddle Cakes; Boston Brown Bread; Potato Fudge Cake; Southern Chicken or Turkey Dressing; Fried Chicken-this recipe includes instructions on feeding the chicken, identifying the best chicken from the butcher and final cleaning and care of the fresh chicken. "Just 22 years ago, tuna was a food unknown to American tables!" from the cover. Founded in 1914 when Frank Van Camp and his son bought the California Tuna Canning Company, changing the name to the Van Camp Seafood Company. The phrase "Chicken of the Sea", first devised as a way to describe the taste, was so successful that soon it also became the company name. This early promotional piece features recipes new to the American cuisine and decidedly Californian: Tuna Loaf, Tuna Encore, Tuna Baked in Avocado Shells, Deviled Tuna, Tuna-Avocado Cocktail etc.. The introduction and recipes are printed on the front and back; [8] pp. Some tone along the edges and on the back otherwise in Mint condition. Recipes: French Dressing, Quick Mayonnaise, Boiled Salad Dressing, Some Salad Combinations, Grapefruit Salad, Waldorf Salad, Thousand Island Dressing, Hawaiian Salad, Russian Salad Dressing, Tartar Sauce. Presumably published sometime during the mid to late 20's as salads in America during the early 20th century, were regulated to remain inside gelatin. Very good only due to the damage to the lower right corner which extends into the booklet 2 leaves, with decreasing severity. LAID IN is the, original and uncommon, form letter sent along with this booklet by Hills Brothers on behalf of the local grocer, in this case Alta Market of Denver Colorado. It's purpose was to introduce a new food, Dromedary Dates to the American people. The letter has incomplete crease to the lower corner corresponding to the booklet corner damage. "The Hills Brothers Company, fruit importers, altered the date market with their massive marketing campaign. Prior to their advertisements many Americans viewed dates as a sticky, bug infested mess. Hill Brothers unveiled advertisements that suggested the romance of the Middle East could be eaten in a date. This recipe book... was sent to customers to educate them on how to use dates in their everyday meals, while also invoking the mystery of the so called Orient." Original brown paper wrap, staple binding. 8.5 X 3.5. : 79 pp. : The first 23 pages offers the selling points for the available models followed by flues and chimney needs. Recipes are in narrative form with exceptions primairly in breads and deserts sections. Front panel is chipped and there is overall very light soil, otherwise an exceptionally nice copy of early 20th century American cookery. The Malleable Iron Range Company was founded in St. Louis, Missouri, in 1896 and incorporated in 1899 with Monarch as a trademark. The average price of its ranges was about $60, which was about twice the selling price of the typical range of the time. Despite the high price, the ranges sold well as they were recognized as being a much better quality and easier to use than the typical range sold at the time. At the Lewis and Clark Centennial Exposition in Portland, Oregon in 1905, the Monarch was awarded the highest prize, the World's Fair Gold Medal. At the Alaska-Yukon-Pacific Exposition in Seattle, Washington in 1909, the Monarch was awarded the gold medal. ; Narrow 8vo 8" to 9" tall .

(with explanation) and #12 "Have you had your child immunized. against diphtheria and vaccinated for smallpox." A very nice piece of history with some surface scuff, other wise bright and clean with clean sharp corners and edges. ; 12mo 7" - 7½" tall; 16 pages .
