In this important work Fenton presents the list of Six Nations Chiefs as recorded on the condolence cane. He describes its function; and provides an interpretation of the pictographs on the cane. Densmore "aspired to prevent the misrepresentation of Indian music in the media and the underrepresentation of true Indian music in scientific inquiry, and she suggested that the two were linked."
