London: Focal Press Limited/Pitman House Limited, 1980. BOOK: Previous Owner Markings (Unused Bookplate); Corners, Boards Bumped; Moderate Shelf Rub to Boards; Edges Lightly Soiled; Slight Yellowing Due to Age. CONTENTS: The mechanics of basic photography; Creative photography made easy; Do it all yourself. SYNOPSIS: For most people, cameras take photographs in much the same way as bees make honey - inexplicably. In this excellent introduction to photography, Paul Petzold systematically explains everything about cameras and their use that is relevant to the newcomer, and to those who want to improve the quality of their photographs. Recent years have seen a profusion of new cameras in which many functions are now extremely simple, if not automatic. But whether a camera is the latest pocket instant or a sophisticated 35mm, there is still much for the owner to understand before he is capable of taking a photograph. Indeed, the most important part of a camera is the person behind the button.…

Description:
New York: Time-Life Books, 1975. BOOK: Corners, Boards Bumped; Moderate Shelf Rub to Boards. ON THE COVER: A documentary within a documentary, this picture suggests the way an Alabama tenant farm family lived, and, in the two snapshots tacked to the wall, bears witness to the family's informal documentation of its own experiences. The photograph was taken by Walker Evans in 1936, while he was employed by the Farm Security Administration; it was the powerful and moving record of rural poverty made by him and his FSA colleagues (pages 66-84) that popularized the term documentary photography. CONTENTS: The Authentic View; Crusaders with Cameras; The Photo League; Honoring Humanity; Critics of Complacency; The Personal Document; Bibliography and Acknowledgments; Picture Credits; Index.. Description:
New York: Time-Life Books, 1974. BOOK: Corners, Boards Bumped; Light Shelf Rub to Boards; Edges Lightly Soiled. ON THE COVER: In the beginning, in 1968, this picture was a multiple exposure in color of a wedding party in the gardens at George Eastman House in Rochester, New York. About a year later photographer Tom Porett printed the transparency onto high-contrast black-and-white film, painted over some details, then printed the touched-up negative on another sheet of high-contrast film. While developing this positive, he flashed a light on to reverse some tones and create the hard line edging. Next he painted over portions of the positive and copied it onto color-positive film. From what remains of the original, a member of the wedding might still reconstruct the scene in memory. CONTENTS: Clues to the Future; Cameras in the Computer Age; Photography's Changing Images; Mixing the Media; Into the Third Dimension; A New Wave of Abstraction; Bibliography and Acknowledgments; Picture…
