San Francisco: Printed for Albert Bender by John Henry Nash. Very Good. 1927. First Edition. Hardcover. 2 vols.;31 pp. each; 12mo; brown paper over boards, paper spine labels; in matching slipcase. Spines a bit faded, with cracking to paper along rear joint of Tributes, and to a lesser extent to part of front joints both volumes. Otherwise firm at boards. San Francisco born Anne Bremer (1868-1923) was a California painter, poet, and art patron, considered one of the leaders of the young moderns influenced by Post-Impressionism. She made many lasting contributions to the San Francisco art world and of her painting, fellow artist Marsden Hartley wrote at the time that in his opinion Anne Bremer was "one of the three artists of real distinction that California has produced." Coping with leukemia from 1921, she gave up painting to study literature and write poetry. .
