The Times, Thursday June 22, 1815

By Battle of Waterloo Ephemera, 19th Century Newspapers,

London: The Times,, 1815. This is an early reproduction of the famous Times 'Waterloo Edition', which ran to three printings as news of the battle victory came in on June 22, 1815. There are four leaves, folded and creased as illustrated, with some browning, and with small tears at the folds. The Times website notes the marks that authenticate an original printing, and adds that there have been several commemorative printings. My copy is not an original, but it is certainly an early copy. It came to me as part of a collection that included early 19th century Irish provincial newspapers, so I would guess it is from the mid-19thC. Some clues: it does not have the 'Printed and published at'..etc Also, the top of Page three reads 'Tuesday, June 22, 1815' instead of Thursday. The dimensions of the pages are 17.5 by 11 inches.. Good/No Jacket.

Continuation De l'Histoire Universelle De Messire Jacques Benigne Bossuet, Tome Troisieme, Depuis L'an 1688, Jusqu'a La Mort De Clement XI, 1721

By Author not named

Amsterdam: Etienne Roger ( Estienne ), 1722. full calf with some mild wear, five raised bands on spine, restrained gilt decoration on spine, red label with title present but label presumably showing volume number is missing, text is clean and tight throughout, complete with engraved frontispiece, vignette on title page and twenty four fold-out maps at rear, 527 pages of text, plus publisher's catalogue and the maps. Third and final volume of this edition. The author is not stated, but Jean de la Barre is attributed with writing part of it. However he is thought to have died around 1711, and I can find no detail on who might have brought it up to 1721 - perhaps Roger himself? There is a neat ink signature on the title page next to the vignette, 'J. De Virasel' which may refer to the writer. There is an armorial bookplate on the front pastedown. Odd volume. First Edition. Full-Leather. Very Good/No Jacket. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall.
