First edition two volume hardback set, 1878, in marbled paper covered boards half bound in dark green calf, the spine with five raised bands and gilt titles. In overall very good used condition with only slight signs of age, handling and storage - boards a touch rubbed but remain clean and crisp. Bindings tight and appear almost unopened - hinges sound. Internally clean, no annotation or inscriptions - ownership signature neat to title page in volume two and small stamp to title page in each volume; toning to page-ends (top edges gilt) but text, maps (one folding and one large linen-backed map of Smith Sound to rear pocket in volume two), marbled endpapers and illustrations bright and clear throughout. A particularly handsome and well cared for set. Photographs available. Not old library books.
