London: Methuen & Co Ltd, 1906. Third and Cheaper Edition, published by Methuen in May 1906. No dustwrapper, wear to edges of boards, spine strip has a four-inch split to the lower left-hand side, top half-inch above the title panel is mostly gone. Top corner of f/ep has been cut out (probably had a previous owner's name on), binding split inside back cover and at half-title, folding map of Lhasa and b&w plate at p331 is loose but still present, last (blank) page also loose but still present, a tear to one of the folds of the map inside back cover. But otherwise a not too bad copy, with all the maps and plates present, of this hard-cover book. Originally published in March 1905, the book describes Tibet, including Gyatse, Lhasa and the Tsangpo Valley, which the author visited while accompanying the British Expedition to Tibet as Cultural Consultant. A biography of the British explorer George W Heyward (1840-1870) who was murdered in the Darkot Pass in what is now Pakistan-administered Kashmir. Deals mostly with the last few years of his life, as there is little information on his earlier career. 254pp, 8pp b&w illustrations.. First Edition. Hard Cover. Kumamoto, Japan: Kurodahan Press, 2014. Very slight scuffing to outer corners of cover, otherwise a good clean tight copy, with no creasing to the spine, of this soft-cover book. An account of the events of March 2011 when meltdowns occured at the nuclear power plant at Fukushima after an earthquake and resulting tsunami. Originally published in Japanese, and translated by Simon Varnam. This is a later, print-on-demand, copy issued by Amazon. The film "Fukushima 50" is based on the book. 287pp.. Paperback. Abridged translations of three autobiographies written by two Tibetans (Phung-tsogs Lung-rtogs, a Buddhist scribe and tutor; and Skar-ma Sun-dhon Paul, an interpreter and later a lecturer in Tibetan at Calcutta) and a Chinese (T'san-chih Chen, an official working for the Imperial Chinese government).
