Unclipped dustwrapper has quite a lot of creasing and small tears to the edges, some shelf-wear to bottom edge of black boards, some foxing to outer edge of pages, and the book does smell of being shut away in a cupboard for a long time. But otherwise a good tight copy of this hard-cover book dealing with the use of mines at sea in the two World Wars, and with a look at earlier attempts. 256pp, 16 b&w illustrations.. First Edition. Minor creasing to edges of unclipped dustwrapper, very slight bumping to spine ends and corners of blue boards, otherwise a good clean tight copy of this hard-cover book dealing with the author's Wartime experiences. He was the first Commando soldier in the British Army and led 3 Commando, taking part in raids on Norway and Dieppe and later in Sicily and Italy and then the Normandy Landings and onwards to Germany. Originally published in 1953, this is a much later edition from 1991 published by Greehill. 222pp, 16pp b&w illustrations, 7 maps.. Hard Cover. Good/Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.

Tunbridge Wells, Kent: Spellmount, 1991. Unclipped dustwrapper is a little bit disfigured due to creases in the clear plastic covering it (NOT added by a previous owner, just a manufacturing error at the printers, I would think), but no creasing to the dustwrapper itself. Minor bumping to spine ends of red boards, but otherwise a good clean tight copy of this not-very-common slim hard-cover book. The author's memories of serving with 1 Commando during WW2, seeing action in North Africa and (mostly) in Burma, finishing the War as Sergeant with a Military Medal.. 127pp, 8pp b&w illustrations, 7 maps.. The author's account of his journey through Occupied France after his Halifax bomber was shot down over Alsace-Lorraine in December 1942. Originally published in hardback in the UK in 1987, this is a paperback reprint from Singapore the next year. Deals with the events of February-March 1941 when over 100 local vessels evacuated over 10,000 troops and civilians from Singapore to Sumatra just before the city fell to the Japanese. 246pp, 12pp b&w illustrations, 4 maps.. But otherwise a good clean tight copy of this hard-cover book dealing with the RAF FIDO (Fog Investigation and Dispersal Operation) which involved the use of burners filled with petrol which were lighted to burn the fog off from British airfields during WW2, enabling aircraft to land in safety. 228pp, 77 b&w illustrations,26 b&w diagrams.. The story of Ditha Bruncel, a young German girl living in Silesia, eastern Germany (now western Poland) before and during WW2. She met (and later married) a British RAF Warrant Officer who had escaped from a column of PoWs being marched westwards in early 1945. 288pp, 8pp b&w illustrations.. Hard Cover. Originally published in 1957, this is a much later edition from 1980. The first of the author's books based on his service in the German Army during WW2, serving in a Penal regiment, mainly on the Eastern Front. 297pp.. Hard Cover. Newcastle-upon-Tyne: Dunbar Publications, 2004. Some creasing to spine and to lower corners of cover, a previous owner's name on first page, but otherwise a good clean tight copy of this soft-cover book. The author's account of his Wartime service in the German Army, mostly on the Eastern Front, his time after the War as a captive of the Americans, later transferred to British custody when he was sent to work on a farm in Scotland. He eventually married the farmer's daughter and took over the farm. Originally published in 1999, this is a later reprint from 2004. 303pp, a few b&w illustrations.. Paperback. Originally published in French in 1960 as "Les Mains du Miracle", and in English, translated by Denise Folliot, in 1961, this is a slightly later paperback edition from 1963. Deals with Felix Kersten, who was physical therapist (masseur) to Heinrich Himmler, and used his influence to save many people from death in the Concentration Camps. 224pp.. Paperback. Originally published in1980, this is a third impression from 1991. Deals with the sinking of HMS Royal Oak in Scapa Flow in October 1939. 191pp, 20 b&w illustrations.. Hard Cover. This one deals with the U-Boat U-309, which was sunk in the Moray Firth in February 1945 by the Canadian ship HMCS Saint John. 32pp, b&w illustration throughout.. Paperback. Deals with events in April 1943 when the convoy HX-233 sailed from New York on 6th, arriving at Liverpool on the 21st. One ship was sunk by U-boats and two others were damaged in a collision but reached port. One U-Boat (U 175) was sunk. 192pp, numerous b&w illustrations.. First Edition. Hard Cover.
