Sorgenfri Station, Copenhagen: Frilandsmuseet, 1962 Book. Very Good. Soft cover. 1st Edition. "Welcome to The Open Air Museum - an iconic destination for over 100 years! One of the largest and oldest open air museums in the world. The Open Air Museum is a museum of rural architecture focusing on landscapes, buildings and people. But it is far more than just a historical museum, it is also a popular tourist attraction that appeals to the visitor's imagination. Arriving at the museum, you enter a different world: the countryside of historic Denmark. It is not difficult to imagine yourself transported centuries back in time, strolling along the gravel roads and visiting the fully-furnished homes of the people of the past, such as the peasant, the wealthy miller, the village weaver or the inmates of the poorhouse." 83p. illus. fold-out plan [This early edition NOT found in WorldCat].

Description:
Stockholm: Almqvist & Wiksells/ Gebers Forlag, 1957 Book. Near Fine. Hardcover. Facsimile Edition. Stiernhielm [1598-1672) was the first Swedish poet to apply the verse meters of antique poets to the Swedish language, modifying their principle of long and short syllables to a principle of stressed and unstressed syllables, which better suits the phonology of Swedish. His most famous is "Hercules", an epic poem in hexameters, about how Hercules in his youth is being tempted by Fru Lusta ("Mrs. Lust") and her daughters to choose an immoral lifestyle for his future. The allegory, known as Hercules at the crossroads, can be traced back to the Athenian sophist Prodicus of Ceos, as preserved in Xenophon. This miniature book contains a facsimile of the first edition of the poem published in Fraktur type the original title page reads "Georgi Sti´ernhielmi Hercules. Tryckt i Upsala hoos Johannem Pauli, Academiæ Typog. Ahr 1658" [unpaginated] followed by an essay…

Description:
Philadelphia / Jerusalem: University of Pennsylvania Press, 1981 Book. Good. Hardcover. First Edition.. "Scattered in the North Atlantic 300 miles off Iceland and 400 miles off Norway lies an archipelago-- the Faroe Islands. At present, (of 1981) an internally self-governing dependency of Denmark, the Faroes have kept their culture alive in part by elaborating certain elements of that culture as badges of self-consciousness. 'The Ring of Dancers' is composed of af a series of studies of aspects of Faroese life, language, and folkways. The Faroes are introduced as the Faroese themselves conceive them-- as islands both joined and separated by the waterways round about them. The archipelago is visualized in terms of such waterways as fjords, the points of the compass, 'home' villages, and natural and political districts. The authors also discuss Faroese society as the Faroese conceived it around 1890, by an analysis of a then popular folktale about the Ashlad. Placed in its social…
