A clean, unmarked copy complete with 8 tissue protected color plates plus a color illustrated title page. Bound in black cloth hardcover with illustrated color pastedown on front, gilt titled spine. Printed endpapers with wonderful lobster art - the endpapers are clean and complete, left bottom corner of front endpaper creased. Pages also clean, top edge gilt but moderately dulled. There are closed tears to two text leaves (page11/12 almost torn totally from bottom to near top) and one tissue protector. Tears not taped and could be neatly repaired. Illustrated title page is toned and the last two color plates and their tissue protectors are toned along the top. . Binding is intact but tender; there is a split starting before page 63 and a neat glue repair to front hinge. Cover is clean, moderately shelf rubbed and with a crease to front board about 2" from bottom corner, causing a crease to pastedown and front endpaper. 7 x 9-1/2". x +199 text pages plus plates. Marginal spotting to first text pages, otherwise pages are fresh and near fine. Endpapers are printed with simple map of New England New York. There is some rumpling to the pasted ends, probably caused during binding process. Bound in paper covered boards (front cover with title and illustration in color) and blue cloth spine. Covers are lightly rubbed and soiled but still bright. Hinges and book block intact. John must stay at his uncle's farm in Naples, Maine while his parents take a road trip through New England in search of a mysterious "treasure." This is an early "photo-story book" with several black & white photos of people and places - including such New England landmarks as the House of the Seven Gables, the Provincetown lighthouse, and the old 'doughnut tree' in Fryeburg, Maine. 6-3/4 x 8-3/4". 156 pages.
