Nice copy. Fr. Augustine Baker, a convert, originally wrote these treatises while still a chaplain with no thought of publication. They were first published in 1641. Edited now to prune away some 19th century accretions by Gerard Sitwell, the book is designed "for the many who are trying to lead a serious spiritual life who in their measure feel a desire for God, and who realize that this imposes on them the necessity for the regular practice of internal prayer..." ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 497 pages .

Interior has Fingesten's name, some light pencil marginalia and underlining (unclear whether these are by Fingesten or not) , otherwise clean and unmarked. Peter Fingesten (1916-1987) was a German-American artist/teacher who died in NYC where this book was found. Rulman Merswin (c1307-1382) was a German mystic and a founder of the Friends of God. In this edition, Thomas Kepler gives us the text to The Four Begining Years and The Book of the Nine Rocks. Hard to find, this one with nice provenance. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 143 pages .
