A little light scattered foxing to first few pages, the name Michell 1880 to the top of the title page. A good new edition copy. Contains several papers, such as Lundy Island, Highwater Mark, Goby Hunting, Dartmoor and the Dart, a Day in the Woods of Jamaica; all to be read in isolation.. New Edition. Hardcover. Contemporary full polished calf with tooled edges. Morocco label on spine which has four raised bands and gilt decoration. Marbled end papers. Engraved frontispiece, this edition does not have the further two engravings. Short cracks to top of hinges. Binding Firm. An element of damp staining to the front end papers. Discreet contemporary sig. Cockling of the paper within the main text of the book. This outstanding work on natural history contains one of the earliest descriptions, with observations, of birds and animals of the tropics, known in greater part only from museum species. The value of Waterton's work rests in the fact that he collected a quantity of poisons (curare) and gives an accurate account of their preparation. Included are instructions for the preservation of the many animal skins he brought back to England. A nice copy.. 2nd Printing. Hardcover. Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Book.
