R.S.' added in manuscript after the author's initials and 'M.D.', small ink blot to title page; other pages spotted to a greater or lesser extent; a few pages close-trimmed, but without the loss of any letterpress. Later quarter black calf with thin, marbled boards, lettered in gilt to the spine 'Description of Tweeddale'; binding with some rubbing, slightly chipped to the head/tail of the spine. Front free end-paper detached. Provenance with the engraved heraldic bookplate of 'Rammerscales' with the motto 'I hear the bells' to the front pastedown'; bookplates of Sir George Taylor to both rear and front end papers [Sir George Taylor, former director of Kew, keeper of botany, British Museum, plant collector and botanist].
