New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1889 Beautiful light brown cloth binding with a black floral border on the spine and front cover and red imprinting on the spine and front cover. The spine head and heel and the corner covers are bumped and rubbed; the spine has two tiny chips; and the heel has a tiny tear that is not through the entire binding but is starting to fray at the tear. The page prior to the title half-page has the previous owner's signature and a date: M.L. Newman, 1895. The endplates are illustrated with a very pretty floral design. The pages are crisp, clean, unmarked and uncreased. The one exception is an illustration between pages 62 and 63 that is coming loose. The illustrations are printed on a different paper, much stiffer and thicker. Tissue paper that is browning separates and protects the 1st illustration and the title page. The corners have been bumped and rubbed through at both bottom corners and one top corner. The front flyleaf and pastedown has a previous owner's signature and the date Oct. 22, 1889. 360 pages that are crisp and clean with tanning due to age and a few spots on a few of the pages. There may be a tiny tear, here and there, as the pages are so tender/fragile, although NOT crumbling. Page 15 has a very small open tear at the top right corner. Philadelphia: J.B. Lippincott Co., 1941 Popular Edition, 34th Impression, 253 pages, clean, crisp, and uncreased. In fact, it doesn't look like it has ever been opened. Red cloth binding, tight, with no stains and only minor bumping/shelfwear to the top and bottom of the spine. The dust jacket is brightly illustrated and has a picture of a scene from the television series My Friend Flicka with Johnny Washbrook (Ken) sitting on Flicka. The dust jacket has some chipping on the top and bottom of the spine and closed tears on both the front and back. The spine of the dust jacket is also faded and the price has been clipped.
