Description:
This is a first edition of The Iowa Baseball Confederacy, a 1986 novel written by the Canadian author W.P. Kinsella (1935-2016). Kinsella is best known for his novel Shoeless Joe, which became the film Field of Dreams. The Iowa Baseball Confederacy tells the story of Gideon Clark, a man on a quest. He is out to prove to the world that the indomitable Chicago Cubs traveled to Iowa in the summer of 1908 for an exhibition game against an amateur league, the Iowa Baseball Confederacy. But a simple game somehow turned into a titanic battle of more than two thousand innings, and Gideon Clark struggles to set the record straight on this infamous game that no one else believes ever happened.
310 pages.
The dust jacket is unclipped and has wear along the edges.
The book's spine is cream and has a little discoloration. It was a gift and there is an inscription on the front endpaper. But it doesn't appear that the recipient read it.
Other than that, it's perfect.

Description:
Stephen Leacock (1869-1944) was a Canadian teacher, political scientist, writer, and humorist. From 1915 to1925, he was the best-known English-speaking humorist in the world.
He is famous for his not-unkind criticisms of people's follies and foibles and is still called 'the funniest man who ever lived.'
Leacock wrote 22 works of non-fiction, 2 biographies and 29 novels; Model Memoirs is his 23rd. It was published in 1938 by Dodd Mead. As was the case with all of his books, additional printings had to be done regularly—this is a copy from the 4th printing, in 1940.
316 pages, 5 1/4" x 7 1/2"
It is red boards with an imprinted design on the cover and gold lettering on the spine. There is a little fading to the spine but no real shelf wear.
The covers are in perfect condition.
It was given to a father from a son in 1941; on the front endpaper, the son inscribed it, in pencil, the father signed it in ink.
Aside from that, there are no marks in the book. The spine is nice and tight. It is in perfect… Read More

Description:
Saul Bellow (1915 –2005) was a Canadian-American writer and academic who won the 1976 Nobel Prize, as well as a Pulitzer. He is the only writer to win the National Book Award for Fiction three times.
Bellow wrote 14 novels; More Die of Heartbreak was his 10th. It is the story of an intellectually gifted and philosophically tortured man attempting to work out his fate and worldview.
This is a first printing of the first edition, published by Viking, printed in the USA and distributed in Canada by Penguin. It is purple boards with cream trim and brilliant silver lettering on the spine.
It has never been opened—it creaked when I pulled back the front cover. Its only flaw is that someone stamped the underside with a star (see photo).

Description:
This is a first edition (1991) of Murther and Walking Spirits, the second-last novel by the brilliant Canadian novelist Robertson Davies (1913-1995). It is a ghost story; after a film critic is murdered, his ghost attends a strange film festival. While the attendees see actual films, the critic's ghost sees films detailing the lives of his ancestors—one was a Tory during the American Revolution, another who was a carpenter who married a blue-blooded woman. The films deal with more and more recent subjects until the novel is brought to a modern-day conclusion.
This is a perfect copy, with an unclipped dust jacket. The edges of the jacket are starting to darken a little, but there are no marks of any kind in or on the book.

Description:
This is a first reprint of the Oxford Book of Humorous Prose, a 'Conducted Tour' by the English comedy writer Frank Muir (1920-1998).
It is not a true anthology; it is a stroll through various humorists of various nationalities writing in English: the standard (Dickens, Twain), the expected (Dorothy Parker, Benchley, Shaw), the unexpected (Edgar Allen Poe, George Eliot), the well-known (Waugh, Leacock, Amis), the unknown (Johnson I. Hooper; Barry Crump), the classic (Sterne, Samuel Johnson), and the modern (Erma Bombeck, Garrison Keillor). Selections are generally very short, with bridges, often fairly humorous of themselves, by Muir. The humor ranges from the broad to the subtle. I attach photos of some of the contents pages.
It was an instant best-seller when it was published in 1990, this is the first reprint, from the same year.
It is 1154 pages and weighs 3 lbs.
The dust jacket has a little wear--small tears that have been taped.
The book itself is in mint condition, with no marks of any kind in… Read More

This is a pristine first edition of the book club edition of Rachel, Rachel, published by Knopf in 1968. The book was the award-winning third novel by renowned Canadian author Margaret Laurence, and was originally published in 1966. It is about the sexual awakening of a 30-something New England schoolteacher. Its original title was A Jest of God. However, in 1968, the book was made into a film by Paul Newman, and he gave the film the title Rachel, Rachel. The film was produced and directed by Newman, with Joanne Woodward as Rachel. She won the Golden Globe for Best Actress for the role, and it received a slew of Oscar nominations. After that success, Knopf re-released the novel under the name Rachel, Rachel. The dust jacket is unclipped and has the shelfwear you see in the photos. There is a tiny remnant of the price tag on the front endpaper, but the book has not been read.NOTE: My quoted price for shipping OUTSIDE of North America is for surface mail without tracking. Description:
This is the fifth novel from the brilliant Canadian novelist Gail Anderson-Dargatz, published in 2016. It takes place in the Thompson-Shuswap region of British Columbia, specifically around a bend in the river where the salmon run.
On one side of the river is a ranch once owned by Eugene Robertson, who came in the gold rush around 1860. On the other side is a Shuswap community that has its own tangled history with the river--and the whites. At the heart of the novel are Hannah and Brandon Robertson, teenagers who have been raised by their grandfather after they lost their mother. As the novel opens, the river is dying, its flow reduced to a trickle, and Hannah is carrying salmon past the choke point to the spawning grounds while her childhood best friend, Alex, leads a Native protest against the development further threatening the river. When drowning nearly claims the lives of both Hannah's grandfather and her little brother, their world is thrown into chaos.
