This book, compiled by the American baseball historian David Nemec, illustrates the evolution of baseball, over 92 years. It contains 1229 photographs, year-by-year highlights, player information--it's an exhaustive encyclopedia.

It's a large, very heavy book: 9" x 11 1/2" x 2", 592 pages.The dust jacket and cover are identical. The dust jacket is a little battered, with a couple of taped tears at top and bottom.

The book is in superb condition, save for a tear to the paper of the spine, at the back. At the front, it is inscribed from a mother to her son, but I don't think he read it. There are no marks in it and the spine is unbroken. Great baseball book.

From 1978 to 1981, Time-Life Books published a series called 'The Seafarers'. It was 22 volumes, all written by experts in their fields, on different aspects of maritime history.
All are 175-185 pages, all bound in thick black leatherette, all beautifully illustrated with drawings, paintings and photographs.
Of the 22, I have 11 left (the list is below). All are listed here on Biblio. You can buy one, or as many as you like.
Mine are from the first printing. Unless otherwise noted, all are in mint condition.
This one is "The Clipper Ships", reviewed as an exciting page-turner. It covers the design, building and exploits of such notable clippers as the Sea Witch, the Flying Cloud, and the Cutty Sark. Frederick Albert Cook (1865-940) was an American doctor and explorer who, in 1906, claimed that he had reached the peak of Mount McKinley, making him the first to scale North America's highest mountain. He had not. At the time, there were questions, inquiries, and an endless trail of fake photographs, incorrect maps and bribed witnesses.
This book's authors spent decades gathering evidence to disprove Cook's claim; this book details how false it was.
It is 193 pages, including loads of photos and maps--and a color pull-out map.
Unclipped dust jacket. Almost no shelfwear--the dust jacket is deliberately designed to look like an old photo album.
Until now, it was unopened. But, just around the edges, the paper has started to yellow. That may also be deliberate--I don't know. But it's an expensively-produced piece. Beautiful book.

Excellent Condition: there are a few dogears and a tiny tear where the cover meets the spine, which I've taped.

Hans Brinker, or TheSilver Skates: A Story of Life in Hollandis a novel by American author Mary Mapes Dodge, first published in 1865. The story takes place in the Netherlands and is a colorful fictional portrait of early 19th-century Dutch life, as well as a tale of youthful honor.
The book's title refers to the beautiful silver skates to be awarded to the winner of the ice-skating race Hans Brinker hopes to enter. The novel introduced the sport of Dutch speed skating to Americans, and Hans Brinker is still considered the prototypical speedskater. The book also gave us the story of the little Dutch boy who plugs a dike with his finger.
I have looked everywhere and can't find an identical copy of this book.
It is undated but, because of the style of illustrations and type, I'm dating it at 1925. Published by Grosset & Dunlap as part of the Companion Library.

This is a first edition of The Iowa Baseball Confederacy, a 1986 novel written by the Canadian author W.P. Kinsella (1935-2016). Kinsella is best known for his novel Shoeless Joe, which became the film Field of Dreams. The Iowa Baseball Confederacy tells the story of Gideon Clark, a man on a quest. He is out to prove to the world that the indomitable Chicago Cubs traveled to Iowa in the summer of 1908 for an exhibition game against an amateur league, the Iowa Baseball Confederacy. But a simple game somehow turned into a titanic battle of more than two thousand innings, and Gideon Clark struggles to set the record straight on this infamous game that no one else believes ever happened.

The dust jacket is unclipped and has wear along the edges.
The book's spine is cream and has a little discoloration. It was a gift and there is an inscription on the front endpaper. But it doesn't appear that the recipient read it.
Other than that, it's perfect.

This is a signed first edition of Kialoa US-1, Dare to Win, the autobiography of American yachtsman Jim Kilroy (1922-2016) who pioneered maxi-yacht racing.
From the '50s to the '80s, Kilroy's ocean racing yachts, all name Kialoa, amassed a record of victories that remains unrivalled in the highest levels of Grand Prix racing.
This book is the behind the scenes story of commerce and competition; of what it takes to succeed; of adventure and glory on the high seas. There is also a motivational aspect to it.It is 447 pages, packed with photographs and maps.8 3/4" x 11 1/4" x 1/12. It weighs 4 1/2 lbs. Kilroy's signature panel is on the inside front cover.This book has not been read. Aside from a tiny bit of shelfwear to the dust jacket, it is in pristine condition.

This is the 1973 printing of The Macmillan Book of Boating, a history of boating/sailing in North America written by William N. Wallace, better known as the the New York Times sports writer Bill Wallace. It was first published in 1964. A photo of the contents is attached.249 pages, including lots of photos, in color and black and white. This book has clearly not been read--aside from some faint yellowing at the edges of the pages, it is in pristine condition.

Men's Vogue published from 2005-2008. This is its first issue. And a hard magazine to find.
