Description:
Boston: Little, Brown and Company, 1960. Hardcover. 8vo. Tan cloth with brown lettering. x, 390pp. Very good. Faintest of mild wear only, though tight and internally fine. First edition, boldly signed by Johnson in blue ballpoint on front flyleaf. From the collection of one who twice tried to occupy this address: Adlai E. Stevenson II (1900-65), who lost to Eisenhower in 1952 and 1956 and who appears in this text more than a few times. More recently, from the collection of his son, Adlai E. Stevenson III (1920-2021), U.S. Senator from Illinois (1969-81). A sharp copy with interesting background. By the way, historian and politician Johnson (1915-85) went on to edit the multi-volume "Papers of Adlai Stevenson.

Description:
N.p.: N.p., n.y.. Hardcover. 4to. Dark brown blind-embossed pebble grain cloth with gilt lettering. 246pp. Top edge gilt. Three heavy stock full page illustrations. Very good. Mild edgewear, with deckled page edges a bit age toned as usual. First of this trilogy reprinting George Bancroft's Lincoln speech of 12 February 1866, James G. Blaine's Garfield speech of 27 February 1882 and John Hay's McKinley speech of 27 February 1902. Strangely, there is no title page in this copy (which tells us this was printed in 1903 by the Government Printing Office in Washington, DC), though there's also no evidence of any missing leaf. Variant? MONAGHAN 1402.

Near fine/very good. Mild slipcase edgewear and light rubbing. Tight, attractive and unusual Japanese-language edition, the first volume of a 12-volume set. Other than the title translation, our non-existent Japanese prevents further bibliographical details such as year of publication (which appears to be circa 1970s or '80s) -- but our extensive Lincolniana background tells us these Japanese editions are rather uncommon.
