Hardcovers. 2-volume set, brown leather spines and corners, marbled boards and marbled page-edges, five raised spine-bands, 336 and 348 pages, with woodcut vignette illustrations, this is a clean set with very tight and square bindings, the following flaws are present: the original paper spine labels are missing as is the bright gilt on the spine, moderate edge-wear is present but no chipping or flaking, Volume 2 has a few surface-scrapes on the rear cover, an attractive bookplate with the name of David P. Earle is present in each volume, foxing is present on the first few pages which includes the frontis and title page, all of the remaining text and illustrations are in excellent condition although some mild edge-tanning is present on some of the pages, quite a sound, presentable set overall .
