STURMGESCHUTZ

By Thomas Anderson

(Subject: Land Vehicles & Weapons - General) Developed in 1940, German Sturmgeschütz assault guns were intended to support the infantry during the attack and breakthrough of enemy positions. On the Eastern Front they proved to be potent tanks destroyers, able to reliably defeat Russian T-34 and KV heavy tanks. Cheaper and quicker to produce than conventional Panzers, they were deployed widely and with great success forming an integral part of armoured units, particularly in the final desperate days of the war when tank production could not keep up with the needs of the war effort. THE TANKS: THE HISTORY OF THE ROYAL TANK REGIMENT 1976-2017

By Charles Messenger

(Subject: Land Vehicles & Weapons - General) The Royal Tank Regiment celebrates its centenary in 2017. This fourth volume of the Regiment’s history begins in the midst of the Cold War, with the four RTR regiments mainly based in Germany. They experienced the implementation of General Sir Nigel Bagnall’s revolutionary new concept for the defence of the NATO Central Region. The Troubles in Northern Ireland were also at the height and the RTR served there on numerous occasions. Saddam Hussein’s invasion of Kuwait resulted in the First Gulf War, in which the Regiment played its part in many ways. Then came the horrors of the civil war in former Yugoslavia, operating tanks in Kosovo. The RTR was at the forefront of the assault on Basrah in the 2nd Gulf War and thereafter served a number of tours in Iraq. The British Army was also heavily committed to Afghanistan and the Regiment would spend the next five years deployed on Operation Herrick. As in Iraq, it carried out a variety of missions and in many different types of vehicle. (Published: 2017) (Publisher: Helion & Co.) FERDINAND AND ELEFANT TANK DESTROYER

By Thomas Anderson

(Subject: Land Vehicles & Weapons - General) The largest and statistically most successful tank destroyer of World War II, the Ferdinand was a true behemoth. Although only 91 examples were built, it took a savage toll of Soviet armour in the Battle of Kursk and other operations on the Eastern Front. This study explores the technical development and combat deployment of this remarkable vehicle, from its' origins in the Porsche Tiger Tank through its deployment as the ‘Ferdinand' in the Citadel offensive, to its modification and redesignation as the ‘Elefant' and final use in the desperate Battle of Berlin. Drawing on original archival material and heretofore unpublished photographs this title is an essential illustrated history to one of the most famous armoured vehicles ever built.
