THE IRAN-IRAQ WAR. VOLUME 2: IRAN STRIKES BACK, JUNE 1982-DECEMBER 1986

By E. R. Hooton and Tom Cooper

(Subject: Post World War II - Gulf, Middle East, Afghanistan) The Iran-Iraq War was one of the bloodiest conflicts of the 20th century and accidentally created Islamic fundamentalist terrorism. There have been many books on the conflict, but this is the first detailed military history using materials from both sides, as well as materials obtained from US intelligence and British governmental archives. It provides a unique insight into a war which began through miscalculation and rapidly escalated into the longest conventional conflict in the post-WWII era. Volume 2 takes up the account after Iraq withdrew from Khuzestan and is based upon material from both sides: US intelligence data, British Government documents and secret Iraqi files. Iraq’s withdrawal exposed the great southern city of Basra to Iranian attack, but it was shielded by fortifications based upon a huge anti-tank ditch which the Iranians tried to storm in the summer of 1982. THE GULF WAR: OPERATION DESERT STORM 1990-1991

By Anthony Tucker-Jones

(Subject: Post World War II - Gulf, Middle East, Afghanistan) Each stage in the Gulf War, the liberation by American-led UN forces of Iraqi-occupied Kuwait in 1990-91, is vividly described in this photographic history. Over 180 photographs provide a remarkable visual account of Operation Desert Storm in the air, at sea and on land, and they show the vast array of military equipment deployed by both sides. Concise text relates the key events in the short, intense conflict – the preliminary air campaign, the elimination of the Iraqi navy, the coalition's ground offensive, the tank battles in which American Abrams and British Challengers engaged Soviet-designed T-72 and T-62s, the Iraqi retreat, death and destruction at the Muttla Pass, and the liberation of Kuwait City. THE IRAQ WAR: OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM 2003-2011

By Anthony Tucker-Jones

(Subject: Post World War II - Gulf, Middle East, Afghanistan) A visual record of the American-led operation which resulted in the dramatic overthrow of dictator Saddam Hussein. In a striking sequence of photographs Anthony Tucker-Jones shows how this was achieved by the American and British armed forces in a lightning campaign of just two weeks. But the photographs also show the disastrous aftermath when the swift victory was undermined by the outbreak of the Iraqi insurgency - in the Shia south, in Baghdad and the Sunni Triangle, and in Fallujah where two ferocious battles were fought. BATTLEFIELD AFGHANISTAN

By Mike Ryan

(Subject: Post World War II - Gulf, Middle East, Afghanistan) The first thorough-going account of the war in the former Taliban state. Not the politics behind the conflict, but the actual situation for the men on the ground. Far from simply ’keeping the peace,’ coalition forces in Afghanistan are involved in full-scale warfare with al-Qaeda militants and the forces of the resurgent Taliban. This story of the men under fire is based upon first-hand accounts from members of 3 Para, 16 Air Assault Brigade, the Royal Marines and the Special Forces community, together with the views and experiences of the US and French troops.
