RENDEZVOUS WITH DESTINY: A HISTORY OF THE 101ST AIRBORNE DIVISION

By Leonard Rapport and Arthur Northwood Jr.

(Subject: Regimental & Unit Histories - General) This history of the 101st Airborne Division is unique among military histories. Never before had such a detailed study been made of the organization, training and operations of a single division of the United States Army. Each action in which the Division took part has been minutely studied and checked against available operations reports and the memories of the men who were there. The operations of the 101st in Normandy, Holland and Bastogne have been set forth as a whole and then broken down into their smallest possible parts: the operations of platoons and squads and in some cases even individuals. In addition to the almost incredible detailed text, the authors have included 107 maps illustrating specific operations and over one hundred photographs and drawings of airborne troopers in training and in action. This is the substantial, enlarged second edition. The dustwrapper is slightly chipped (invisibly repaired) and the book is in fine condition, presented in white boards with gilt and black spine titles and attractive 'Screaming Eagles' and 'Airborne' regimental insignia in gilt, black, white and red on front board. (Published: 1965) (Publisher: 101st Airborne Div Assoc.) (ISBN: 0898393051) (Pagination: xxxii + 830pp, numerous b/w illustrations, 107 maps) (Condition: d/w slightly worn, otherwise fine in white boards with unit insignia) UL-XXXXXX
