Murray was a biologist and manager of the expedition's base camp. He later died while serving on the Canadian Arctic Expedition of 1913-1914. Marston was the expedition artist. Reminscences (not always positive), often humourous, of the expedition and personnel. Extensively and somewhat eccentrically illustrated with photographs and drawings by both men. One plate, The Antarctic land - A Peaceful Night is missing. Chapter on Chanties with music at the rear. In original blue cloth. Sporadic foxing, corners worn, spine faded. Gift inscription dated 1913 to Dr J Craik Taylor from DSS. An important Antarctic record with a very different viewpoint from the official histories. Uncommon.

There are a number of maps, mostly two colour, some folding in each volume. Bound in half calf, marble boards. All covers are detached as well as the spine on volume 2 ; the spine on volume 1 is half detached. The text blocks are in very good condition although the colour frontispieces are foxed. All plates and maps are present.

Part of the Red Reel Library, from the Canada Wire and Cable Company. Bound in red cloth with red edges and the recipient's name printed in gilt on the lower front cover. Very light wear, A printing flaw on pp 189 to 194 has caused folding to the lower corners of those pages.

Vancouver : The Library's Press , 1959 . First Edition . VG . 8VO . An unpublished account of the Lewis and Clark Expedition and copied by David Thompson of the Northwest Company. To an unknown recipient and transcribed from a copy made by David Thompson in his own hand. This was the only known copy of the letter. Handsomely printed on rag paper and rabound in plain blue library buckram. Ex-library with lightest of wear and minimal markings.

Contains many lithographed plates the landscapes and Botany being tinted or coloured. Woodcuts in the text. All present althought the contents call for two maps which are not present. Bound in half leather, marbled boards. Board worn, spine faded, plates in generally very nice condition. A very large and heavy book, special shipping considerations may apply.

Containing Descriptions of the Objects of Natural History Collected on the Late Northern Land Expeditions, Under Command of Sir John Franklin, R.N. John Richardson, 1787-1865, was the physician-naturalist on Franklin's two Arctic overland expeditions (1819-1822 & 1825-1826). He was instrumental in ensuring the survival of the remnants of the crew during the very difficult first expedition. His journal from this expedition was published as Arctic Ordeal, published by McGill-Queen University Press in 1984. The Fauna Boreali-Americana was his major work and was published in four volumes - The Quadrupeds, Birds, Fish and Insects - from 1829-1837, the Fish being published in 1836 with Richardson as the sole author. Newcombe (1851-1924), physician, natural historian and artifact collector was an important figure in the rush to collect Northwest Coast art and objects, most of which were collected for foreign institutions although he collected for the Provincial Museum later in in his career and ulitmately his enormous personal collection was sold to the British Columbia Government and is now housed in the RBCM and the Provincial Archives. The memoir was written to vindicate the contention of Vancouver that his ships were the first to complete the navigation of the inner channels which separate Vancouver Island from the mainland. With 8 guarded maps including one fold-out and errata sheet. This is a non-circulating ex-library copy with a stamp on the title page, library accession numbers on the first page of the covering letter and stamp and catalogue numbers on the last page.
