Laid-in are 3 letters addressed to the book's owner, Alexander William Armour with references to the book about Viscount Knebworth, son of Victor Bulwer-Lytton. Letters are from A.J. Armstrong of Baylor University, Charles Erdman of The Theological Seminary of Princeton, New Jersey, and one letter is unsigned from someone in Greenwich, Connecticut. Two of the three letters are handwritten, and the Erdman lettter is typed and signed and contains a personal note at the end. Edges and spine lightly rubbed, interior is very clean. Itinerary written on front pastedown and dated 1916, owner's name on front free endpaper beneath author's signature.

Inscription on front endpaper reads "Justin Winsor, Esq. With the Editor's kind regards. May 19,1866." An interesting association copy. Winsor was a historian and librarian, and was the founder of the American Library Association, and became its first president. Front board detached but present, spine lacking 2 inch piece from top, water staining to rear board and to margins of text, contents age-toned. Personal stamp of Justin Winsor, Cambridge, Mass. on title page.

Volume I and II were published in 1961, Volume III in 1964. Laid-in is a business card of William B. Harvey, former Director of New York University Press. A nice set.
