Uniformly period rebound in brown half calf over marbled boards; five raised bands with leather titles, tooled gilt decoration, matching marbled end papers, t.e.g. 12mo (19.1x12.3cm). pp. [iv] blank, [ii] half title, xi, [1], blank, 410, [4] blank; [iv] blank, vii, [1] blank, 413, [5] blank; [iv] blank, viii, 474, [4] blank. Very Good. Edgewear with corners and joints rubbed; heavier scuff to volume III top board and lighter scuff to Volume I bottom board; darkened spines with extra spine title of volume III missing with the remaining two chipped (visible stamping remains). Internally near fine with the exception of a foxed dot of stain on the first four blank pages volume III. From the library of Micajah Pratt Clough (1848-1933) with bookplate (Brainerd 66, 1896: 1.75 by 3.25-inches) designed by Edwin Davis French (1851-1906) affixed to front pastedown of each volume. [Clough was a shoe manufacturer on Broad Street in Lynn Massachusetts and member of the Lynn Historical Society. This was one of the two bookplates commissioned from French, the other was Brainerd 51 the year before].
