1950's Magazine Art Work.

By SHORT FICTION ILLUSTRATIONS) de Mara, Joe; Jon Whitcomb, Peter Stevens, et al. (illus).

S.E. Post, Collier's, McCall's, etc.. No date. Ca. 1940s and 1950s.. Twenty-five full-page color illustrations approximately 13 1/2 x 10 1/2 inches that accompanied short stories in weekly "family" magazines of the 1940s and 1950s (Collier's, McCall's, Post, etc.) illustrated by well-known artists of the era such as Joe de Mara, Jon Whitcomb, Peter Stevens, etc. Most of the illustrations feature a line of text from the short story involved, such as the dramatic: "'You never rued the day, did you, Allie?' he asked. She drew away from his arm" or, on a lighter note: "He gripped Miss Whetherby about her delightfully slim waist, and hurled her five yards into the bay." Several of the illustrations lack any text at all, providing an opportunity to improvise. These pages are a "must have" for the host or hostess who has run out of ideas for entertaining guests and is desperate for something that will keep people from talking politics or the stock market. Stick them on a wall and wait for witty captions from the party-goers (written-out of course, no ad libs). Winner with best captions gets to go home early. .
